Get ready for those hot, sticky days and late-night summer cocktail parties. Along with a change in weather, it's time for you to change your apartment decor.

To make it easy on you (and your wallet), here are a few simple summer DIY projects to help you update your place.

1. Watercolor fruit coasters

When you're having friends over for a summer barbecue, you've got to have coasters for your drinks. These will take only an hour to make and your friends will be impressed by the results.

  1. Get some plain white porcelain coasters (you can find them at any craft or home decor store) and a pallet of watercolor paints.
  2. All you need to do is grab a paintbrush and get painting! Paint fruits or other summer-related items like popsicles, flowers, etc. on each coaster.
  3. Once they're dry, cover each with a sealer to protect your creation. That's it, you're all done and ready to party!

2. Sea glass

Here's another extremely easy piece of decor that can bring beach vibes to your place, no matter where you live.

  1. Grab a few clear glass items (jars, vases, globe ornaments, bowls, etc.) and soak them in hot, soapy water.
  2. Scrub them with a brush to remove any dirt and residue, then rinse and let them dry.
  3. Get sea glass spray paint from a home improvement store or online and cover each glass item in one or two coats of paint.
  4. Let it dry and you're good to go! You can fill these with sand and seashells for an authentic coastal beach feel in your apartment.

3. Paint stick art

Instead of spending money on woodcraft pallets, head to the hardware store and grab some paint sticks.

  1. Lay out your paint sticks in a row to get an idea of what size of pallet you want to make.
  2. Use hot glue to attach two or three paint sticks in the opposite direction onto the back of the first row to hold all of them together.
  3. Once you've made your pallet, get some acrylic paint and get creative! Tap into your inner Bob Ross and create one-of-a-kinds! You can do whatever you'd like, whether it's an American flag for the Fourth of July or a flowery landscape.

4. Fruity welcome mat

A doormat is a great way to tell everyone what you're all about, so it's important that you have a good one!

  1. Start out with a plain mat in your choice of color.
  2. Using acrylic paint, just paint whatever design you'd like. You can do pineapples, watermelon slices, popsicles, seashells, the sun, a cute phrase or whatever floats your boat!
  3. If you don't feel confident that you can freehand a design, you can always print a design and cut it out to make a stencil or just grab some stamps from a local craft store. Whatever method you use, the doormat you create will be unique and show your personality.

5. Painted tea towel

A small, simple piece of cloth can have a big impact on the ambiance of your kitchen. To keep the mood light and summery, all you need is a few tea towels, some paint and a few minutes.

  1. Lay your tea towels on a flat surface.
  2. Grab a few acrylic paint colors and a paintbrush and paint away! You can freehand flowers or stripes or you can use stamps and stencils if you'd rather.
  3. You can also use a lemon or lime as a quick and easy summer stamp. Just cut it in half and use it like any other stamp!
